Personal Home Visits: Certified parent educators trained in child development and home visiting provide parents with:
· age-appropriate child development and parenting information · suggestions for learning opportunities that encourage language, intellectual, physical, and social skills and social growth · opportunities to discuss parenting concerns · assistance in observing their child’s development · strategies to manage challenging behaviour · ways to encourage a strong parent-child relationship Home visits normally occur on a monthly or biweekly basis.
Developmental Screenings: Parent educators provide periodic screening of overall development including health, hearing and vision. Developmental screenings assist parents in understanding age-appropriate development and can detect potential concerns early so any necessary intervention can be determined. Group Meetings: Opportunities are provided for parents to come together and share concerns and successes and obtain additional parenting information. See Calendar of Events for upcoming group programming. Resource Network: Links to other community services that further support and enrich families are provided. Resource Library: Parents as Teachers families have the opportunity to borrow books and other parenting resources from an extensive resource library. Newsletter: Families receive a quarterly newsletter filled with parenting ideas and information about upcoming Parents as Teachers and community events.
