What is Parents as Teachers? New study confirms it: Parents as Teachers does improve school readiness South Region Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a FREE parent education and family support program serving families throughout pregnancy potentially until their child enters kindergarten, usually age 5. Parents are supported by PAT-certified parent educators trained to translate scientific information on early brain development into specific when, what, how and why advice for families. By understanding what to expect during each stage of development, parents can easily capture the teachable moments in everyday life to enhance their child's language development, intellectual growth, social development and motor skills.  In the first few years, children learn more and at a faster pace than at any other time in life.  Parents can help shape their child’s future through the kinds of experiences they provide. South Region Parents as Teachers is a local program working with parents to provide them with parenting support and information on their developing child, recognizing that parents are their child’s first and most important teacher! MISSION:  To improve child outcomes in health and safety, child development, and literacy between birth and five years of age by providing accurate and timely information, education and support through an intensive visitation program, parent education classes, support groups and school readiness activities.  VISION: All families have the knowledge and support to nurture children who are healthy, able to learn and socially competent.
