South Region
Parents as Teachers

History

For more than twenty-five years, South Region Parents as Teachers has been engaging and supporting families with young children in Southern Alberta. Beginning as a pilot project in north Lethbridge in April of 1996 with funding from the Office of the Commissioner for Services for Children and Families it has expanded to provide services throughout the city of Lethbridge and much of rural Southwest Alberta.  Because of the generous support of funders and partners hundreds of families have now benefited from the Parents as Teachers evidence-based home visiting model!

South Region Parents as Teachers Society is located in the heart of Southern Alberta, and both acknowledges and pays tribute to the traditional territories of the people of Treaty 7, which includes the Blackfoot Confederacy (the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai First Nations).

By virtue of the signing of Treaty 7 in 1877, South Region Parents as Teachers recognizes that we are all treaty people. South Region Parents as Teachers recognizes that this region is also now home to Region III of the Metis Nation of Alberta.
