Inclusive Practices Policy

The Board of Directors of South Region Parents as Teachers Society promotes inclusive practices in valuing, respecting and understanding diversity. This includes recognizing the role, culture, values, beliefs and behaviours play in human development and family well-being. The value of our work is enhanced through respectful curiosity of family culture and reliant upon the development of reciprocal relationships.

The Board believes:
  • all families have strengths,
  • all families have a culture that guides their behaviour,
  • all families uniquely contribute to the broader community,
  • All young children and their families deserve the same opportunities to succeed, regardless of demographic, geographic or economic considerations,
  • An understanding and appreciation of the history and traditions of diverse cultures is essential in serving families,
  • our similarities as humans are as important as our differences,
  • Parent educators enter a relationship where everyone has an equal status and is untied around a common interest. Parent educators share ownership of visits with families and acknowledge families are experts too.
